Starknet's active users decline following dissatisfaction with its airdrop program criteria and token unlock schedule. Despite the drop, total value locked remains substantial.

Starknet has experienced a notable decline in user activity over the last week, driven by dissatisfaction with its Starknet Provisions Program airdrop.

According to Starkscan data, the active user count on the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain surged from under 20,000 on Feb. 9 to a nearly three-month peak of over 220,500 on Feb. 14. Users and airdrop enthusiasts eagerly joined the network in anticipation of securing an allocation.

However, following the release of details for the airdrop scheduled for Feb. 20, active users sharply dropped to levels seen prior to the announcement. On Feb. 19, the network recorded just over 84,000 active accounts.

The Starknet community has raised concerns about the airdrop criteria, particularly the exclusion of users with less than 0.005 Ether (ETH) in their accounts on Nov. 15, 2023 — an amount valued at around $10 at that time — from the token distributions.

Several users on X and the project’s Discord platform reported missing out on token distributions despite engaging in substantial transactions and contributing liquidity to the network.

In a Feb. 19 post on X, Starknet acknowledged the feedback, stating that it is aware some users "have been left out due to certain Provisions criteria" and is actively working to address these concerns. However, it emphasized that a resolution will take time for research, design, and testing.

Another source of contention is the token unlock schedule, which grants 1.3 billion STRK — approximately 13% of the total supply — to Starknet investors and early contributors on April 15, just two months after the platform's launch.

By comparison, around 700 million STRK — about 10% of the total supply — is set for distribution on Feb. 20.

STRK is currently trading at up to $1.98 on pre-market perpetual exchanges Aevo and HyperliquidX, suggesting a potential market capitalization of around $1.38 billion at launch.

Despite the decline in active users, Starknet's total value locked stands at $54.18 million, representing a 5.7% decrease from its all-time high of $57.5 million on Feb. 14, according to DefiLlama.
